With my background in theatre as a trained actress in Speech & Drama at the prestigious Arts Education Schools, London, I love to work with the voice and how it presents.
As a certified tutor with a Level 5 Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, these worlds go hand in hand because they allowed me to work with many different international accents.
Through this I was asked by many of my students to specifically work on their pronunciation and smooth out difficulties from their native accent to speak English well. These tended to be more advanced speakers and I thoroughly enjoyed this aspect of language and communication and have since specialised in these lessons of accent reduction/softening.
In a relaxed and comfortable environment I will take you through how to create the sounds of modern Received Pronunciation (or SSBE) to enable you to speak clearly and confidently in English. These are bespoke lessons created for your personal goals. I use the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) so you can become familiar with symbols to enable you to become more independent when reading English in the future.
Having trained as a professional actress and singer, I know how important it is to be able to use your voice to communicate authentically. My aim is to give you the tools and confidence with which to speak English at the professional level you desire.
Now this does take work! I love to meet with motivated people who want to put the time in to see the progression. The voice, the breathing and the speech muscles are all exercised, allowing an ease with which to produce the tricky English sounds which you may be struggling with.
These elocution techniques will be implemented into phrases and sentences which you can practise at home which really lets you progress to the next level in each lesson. Throughout we will cover rhythm of speech, connected speech, word stress and intonation. These will all feel natural to use when understood and practised.
You will be provided with audio files to easily play and repeat after when at home, along with PDFs of that particular lesson.
